a sorry attempt at translation
June 25, 2007
while theĀ choas of torrential rains battering karachi is a reality one takes with a pinch of salt like everything else in the city, rain is a symbol of the Lord’s mercy depicted in Sur Saarang of Shah Jo Risalo
this tranlation was attemptedĀ 2 years ago; i may have done injustice to the original but nonetheless comments are welcome

How nice to see this lovely translation -
glad that you have started to post after the break.
The verse is quite relevant to the mayhem and of course invokes hope too. I cannot read Sindhi (wish I could – shameful that I cannot read a major language of my own country!)..
Great effort if I compare the Urdu translation!

Thanks RR. Capturing the essence of our innate and inherent love of the Creator in translated form is so important. Reading the Sindhi portion again today, it seems that I have missed something that could have added a little texture. For example, the first torrent of rain is marked usually by big droplets and Shah Latif has named this first burst of rain as WAD PHURO (Wad=Big and PHURO = Drop) in Line 2. I have completely missed this but expressing a lot of things in English especially those desi writings with sufistic touch makes the act of translation all the more difficult. Thanks for writing your comments & encourgagement. I will post some more.
